AWARDS

The Longhorn World Championship Rodeo has an award studded history of being on the cutting edge of innovation and development of the sport. Longhorn's broncs and bulls have earned a total of 15 world titles, including a sweep of the bucking stock awards in 1977.  

World Champion Bareback Broncs

1977- L3 Showboat is the only bucking horse in the history of Pro Rodeo to win the world championship honors six times and, what's more, he did it over a period of 10 years! Butch LeMay falls victim to the talented sorrel gelding in this photo from the Longhorn Rodeo archives.

 

 

 

 

1981- On the left, former bareback champion Butch Stewart attempts to stay with Terry Wrong, No. 777, which won the championship title in 1981. Contestants earned more than $14,000 riding Terry Wrong the year the horse won top honors.

World Champion Saddle Broncs 

 

 1974- Gold Plated, number 08, was voted the best saddle bronc four years in a row in the       mid 1970s. The bay gelding was slated to be slaughtered for dog food back in 1969 when he was rescued and found a new home on the rodeo circuit. Former world champion saddle bronc rider Butch LeMay says he'll never forget his trips out of the chutes on board Gold Plated. "He was wicked," LeMay recalls.

1977 - 100 Trail Hand - In 1977, all three bucking awards were captured in the same year.

1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000- Tulsa, OK The Longhorn World Championship Rodeo in Tulsa, OK, was named the International Pro Rodeo Association's Rodeo of the Year an unprecedented ten consecutive years.

 

Rodeo Producer of the Year (IPRA) 

Longhorn has earned 'Rodeo Producer of the Year' honors six times.
